#151727#52506D#CABBA5Before or after the performance?
Choose whether the performance is about to begin or has just ended. The same curtains and floor can suggest either moment through the arrangement of light and objects. Write the timing in one sentence before composing.
Keep one telling object
Choose a chair, a sheet of paper, or an uncoiled cable. Avoid adding many symbols at once. Fewer objects make their relationship with the light more important and easier to notice.
Give the darkness structure
Darkness need not be one flat fill. Differences in tone can distinguish curtain, rear wall, and floor edge. An empty area can be dark if it helps the viewer understand the space.
Make it a small practice
- Choose before or after a performance.
- Place one object that suggests the moment.
- Separate the space with three tonal levels.
