Draw a floating garden someone could live in
A composition diagram for this exercise, not a photograph.

Give the place an entrance

Include a garden, a dwelling, and a route connecting them. Arrange three large shapes first and decide where the entrance belongs. A readable entrance turns a distant floating spectacle into a place a viewer can imagine moving through.

Choose three main colors

Reserve a dark tone for structure or shadow, a light one for sky and resting places, and a middle tone to connect plants and buildings. Do not color every leaf separately yet. Establish the hierarchy in a thumbnail before enlarging details.

Leave something unexplained

A door whose interior stays hidden or a path leaving the frame can invite further imagination. It need not have one correct explanation. In the caption, name what you want viewers to notice first and what you intentionally leave open.

Make it a small practice

  1. Place the garden, dwelling, and route as three large shapes.
  2. Use three colors to establish a hierarchy.
  3. Leave one opening for imagination.
