A walk with three landmarks

Give a familiar walk a beginning, a pause, and an ending instead of a distance record.

Choose three points

Choose three recognizable landmarks on a familiar route you can use: an entrance tree, a bench at a corner, and a small bridge at the end. They are places for observation, not checkpoints that require a particular speed.

Change your attention at each stop

Notice light at the first stop, sound at the second, and an overlooked detail at the third. A few words are enough. You need not hold a phone throughout the walk; make notes at a suitable stopping point.

Make a personal route map

After returning, draw three circles, add the landmarks and your observations, then connect them. The map records how you experienced a place rather than proving how far you went. Revisit the same route with a different observation theme.

Make it a small practice

  1. Choose three familiar, accessible landmarks.
  2. Record light, sound, and a small detail at the three stops.
  3. Draw the route as a personal observation map.
